Three Smiles started with three words and one traveller. The next places, the regional twists and the real voices will come from the people who know them best: you.
Where it is heading
Today the app covers 70 destinations, with the pronunciation written under every word. Audio comes from the voices built into your phone, and many phones have none for languages like Welsh, Zulu or Māori. Here is what we want to build next, with your help.

New countries and regions, added in the order people ask for them.

Recordings by people who grew up speaking the language, so every word can be heard on every phone.

These are plans, not promises. What we build first depends on what you send us.
Three ways to help
1. Ask for a place
Going somewhere we do not cover yet? In the app, search Explore and tap Ask us to add it. Or use the form on our home page. The most requested places come first.
2. Improve a phrase
Know a better or more local way to say it? Open the destination in the app and tap Suggest under the word. Add the pronunciation and a note, and tell us which region it is from.
3. Record the words
If you grew up speaking a language we cover, or one we should, you could record hello, thank you and cheers for it. Email us and we will send a short guide. It takes about five minutes with a phone.
How we use what you send
- We check every suggestion and recording before anything goes into the app.
- If we use your suggestion, we credit you by first name, but only if you agreed to that.
- We never sell or share what you send. Our privacy policy has the details.
